WEEKEND NOTES: EAST FORK CARSON RIVER

wandering in the desert
Walking towards the East Fork river
If you navigate your way through miles of desert, via foot or car, you will eventually reach the river, and just a ways beside the river, there is a stream blowing steam. When water from the spring mixes with water from the river, the temperature becomes perfect. Absolutely perfect.

PICTURE FOR THE WEEKEND NO. 30

Golden Gate bridge

Finally got around to biking the Golden Gate Bridge. It's a lovely structure, the bridge. Here's my rented bike, as proof.

A PICTURE FOR THE WEEKEND NO. 29

Pleasant stream
I thought I would try to end the week on a calming note. I like the colors here, the two tiny people on the hill. Honestly, though, it's not all that high.

Now that it's September, summer is finally here in San Francisco!  Yay!  Here's some flowers.

A PICTURE FOR THE WEEKEND NO. 25

For your daily cathedral fetish.

This was taken in Cuzco, Peru.  In many cities, I noticed the other houses could be generally nondescript, bordering on ugly, while the church, or in this case, the cathedral, would be a thing of beauty.  It may be an indication of priorities, of influence, or of nothing at all.  Maybe this is simply the way of things.  After all, the Cathedral represents a majestic higher power, and your living room is just for you.

In this particular building, I discovered that a cathedral is built in the shape of a cross.   There is a long central aisle called a nave and two side aisles.  The arms of the cross are the transepts, and they intersect the nave.  I discovered this of course, after I finished Pillars of the Earth, which felt like 50% church architecture and building vocabulary and 50% plot/intrigue.  Perhaps that was better left unsaid.

Happy weekend!

The resolution could have been a bit better, but that comes with a better camera, I suppose.

PICTURE FOR THE WEEKEND NO. 22

shorline along Muir Beach

I trotted around here over the weekend.  It is nice to live near the water - or at least to have the water a pleasant commute away.

As an aside, why are weekend pics practically always nature shots?  Because I find them calming, and I like a bit of calm during my weekend - also during the workweek, but there's no time for that, so weekend it is!

A PICTURE FOR THE WEEKEND NO. 21

Don't these mountains look Asian?  That's because they're from Korea.

FYI: I don't know that guy.  He seems to like mountains too.

A PICTURE FOR THE WEEKEND NO. 20

I was walking around here over the weekend. No one really knows or likes this beach.  I would like to keep it that way.

A PICTURE FOR THE WEEKEND NO. 18

When's the last time you were on a train?  I think it's more of a European thing, but I have to concede that it can be a rather enjoyable way to travel if you can get a good one.  Images from the Andean Explorer train that travels between the cities of Puno and Cusco.
Sorry about the tilt, the train was moving and shaking.
